Allan Llarena, Senior Director with Treliant, has over 15 years of experience helping various sized financial institutions in the U.S., Canada, and Europe to identify, investigate, and mitigate financial crime risk. With a heavy focus on complex international money laundering and fraud investigations, “know your customer” (KYC), and enhanced due diligence (EDD), as well as anti-money laundering (AML) risk assessments, Allan’s years of experience were gained in-house from working in AML compliance departments of large global financial institutions as well as from being a client-centric practitioner in the professional services industry.

Allan has worked with top U.S. and global banks, foreign banking organizations, regional banks, and federal agencies, managing project teams of over 100 personnel including highly experienced AML and fraud professionals. His most recent projects have included assisting a top U.S. bank in assessing its transaction monitoring program to identify how personnel, processes, and technologies could be enhanced to achieve efficiencies, and assisting a client in identifying fraud, waste, and abuse in a federal pandemic relief program by standing up an “aggregate review” team tasked with uncovering and investigating networks of related or linked fraudulent borrowers and loans.

In addition, Allan has worked on various comprehensive AML compliance program assessments, AML program remediations including process enhancements and policy and procedure development, transaction monitoring lookbacks, KYC file reviews and uplifts, EDD reviews, enterprise BSA/AML and sanctions risk assessments, horizontal (i.e., client population, product, or activity-specific) AML risk assessments, and comprehensive BSA/AML program audits.

Prior to joining Treliant, Allan was an Associate Director at two other consulting firms, Guidehouse and Protiviti, specializing in financial crimes compliance. He has also held roles as a Compliance Officer and Vice President at Citibank and as a Senior Analyst/Analyst at MUFG Union Bank (now part of U.S. Bank) and Wells Fargo.

Allan has a BA in Economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
