Matthew Ellis, Treliant’s Managing Director, Data Privacy & Ethics, is an industry-recognized global data privacy leader with an extensive track record in helping organizations develop their path to business success. A strategic thinker and problem solver, he has worked with clients across a wide range of industries including financial services, technology, pharma, biotech, transportation, and more. Matthew helps companies accomplish their goals on time and on budget by offering business strategy, executive counsel, organizational development, and project management.

Prior to Treliant, Matthew was an independent consultant specializing in helping financial services clients develop best practices regarding consumer data and use, data encryption, malware, spoofing, and spam. He has also advised clients regarding privacy compliance with multiple regulations such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act, Right to Financial Privacy Act, Truth in Lending Act, and Bank Secrecy Act. Additionally, he has advised Chief Privacy Officers and Data Protection Officers on the strategic implementation of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its privacy requirements for cross-border data flows. Earlier, he held senior privacy positions at Microsoft, as well as Deloitte and Ernst & Young, where he advised clients such as Cisco, HP, Jet Blue, and others.

Matthew is active in community service, particularly in the areas of education and youth advocacy. He holds board positions on Digital Living Labs and Rosemary Anderson High School – Portland, Oregon, which focus on protecting and empowering youth online. He is also on the advisory council for the Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center and Rosemary Anderson High School, which are committed to the success of at-risk youth in the Portland, OR area.

Matthew holds a BS in Business Administration and Management from Northwest Christian University.
