Kristy Curl is a Director with Treliant. She assists financial institutions of all sizes to establish robust compliance programs and perform compliance reviews related to deposits, lending, and Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) requirements. She also develops and conducts board, executive, and staff-level regulatory training programs.

At Treliant, Kristy has developed and conducted several independent testing and audit programs—for a $2 billion and a $16 billion regional multi-bank holding company, a payday lender, and a Top 20 financial institution. These audit programs included specific regulatory requirements such as consumer lending, Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA), real estate lending, private education lending, electronic funds transfers (Regulation E), BSA/AML, and other lending and deposit products and services. Conducting compliance testing has included building a work program, performing transaction testing, compiling work papers, and issuing a report on deficiencies, root causes, and recommendations for corrective action.

Kristy has been a project lead and subject matter expert for a Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) and a SCRA lookback project involving 70 to 300 professionals and 65,000 files, including training, database development, quality control monitoring, coordination of data delivery from the client, and communication with all parties to the project. She was a key advisor to an $8 billion financial institution and managed a team of nine reviewers that cleared a backlog of automated transaction monitoring alerts by preparing narratives supporting the decision whether or not to further investigate for suspicious activity report (SAR) filing purposes. She has written compliance management system (CMS) policies and procedures for non-bank lenders, fintech companies, and financial institutions of various sizes. For a Top 20 financial institution and two $20 billion regional banks, she has also served in Compliance Officer and staff augmentation roles building CMS programs and providing compliance support to all business lines impacted by regulations.

Prior to joining Treliant, Kristy was the Head of Compliance for a community bank specializing in partnering with fintech companies. She has also worked for a national financial compliance, operations, and management consulting firm in Texas and a regional accounting firm in Colorado. She has served as a virtual Compliance Officer for multiple community banks and has worked on several specialty compliance projects such as BSA/AML lookbacks under regulatory supervision; fintech due diligence reviews and program support; large file reviews; implementation of new regulatory requirements; and advice to a core processor technology company on regulatory requirements, business needs, and functional specifications.

Kristy has a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Colorado. She is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
